Monash Health Fertility

Established in late 2022, Monash Health Fertility (MHF) provides a full range of fertility care services to the people of metropolitan and regional east and southeast Victoria. In the immediate term, an in-house specialist consultation and diagnostic imaging service will be provided, with high level Assisted Reproductive Treatment (ART) delivered in partnership with our private provider.

Through its representation on the Department of Health Clinical Advisory Committee, Monash Health Fertility plays a key consultation and advisory role in state-wide fertility service policy and procedure development, and evidence-based care practices.

Monash Health Fertility aims to provide a safe, high quality, evidence-based program that prioritises the physical and psychological needs of all persons undergoing treatment. The service strives for excellence, with a continuous endeavour to achieve industry leading success rates, strict adherence to regulatory requirements and ethical standards, and clear and transparent reporting. With the opening of this new service, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Fertility Genetic Counsellor. We are open to applicants seeking Part Time employment.

A Day in the Life:

Providing advanced genetic counselling to patients and families of Monash Health Fertility, you will also provide mentorship & leadership to the team, and assist the Senior Genetic Counsellor/ Unit Manager in the coordination, administration and direction of genetic services at Monash Health.

In addition to this, you will also:

  • Bring a high-level of IVF-specific knowledge to the team, enabling the upskilling of colleagues and the rapid capacity-building of the department to meet the needs of the new public fertility service.
  • Continue to accept and seek learning opportunities for professional development.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
  • Provide mentorship, supervision and leadership to all genetic counsellors, intake assistants, and Master of Science in Genetic Counselling students.
  • Assist in coordinating the student placement program for Master of Science in Genetic Counselling students.
  • Develop, define, and coordinate policies, procedures and workflows to facilitate effective service delivery between Monash Health Fertility and private service providers.
  • Act as a liaison and expert for contacts at genetic testing labs and private IVF providers to enable a smooth journey for Monash Health Fertility patients undertaking genetic feasibility and testing processes.
  • Provide assistance to the Senior Genetic Counsellor/ Unit Manager with management activities and strategic planning.

What you need:

  • Masters of Genetic Counselling
  • Graduate diploma (in place of Masters of Genetic Counselling where completed prior to 2009)
  • Certified Genetic Counsellor by Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an IVF-setting as a Genetic Counsellor
  • Experience providing supervision and support to students and Associate Genetic Counsellors.
  • Experience assisting with management tasks, strategic planning development and implementation.
  • Proficient computer user, including excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new programs quickly.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing demands.
  • Attention to detail.
