  • Salary: $97,782.74 Total Package Non PBI Equivalent. Break Down Below;
    • $88,761.92 Base Pay
    • Up to $6,385.95 in tax-savings via our offered charity salary packaging.
    • $2,634.87 allowances and cash benefits
    • + $9,320.00 Super (10.5%)

About this position

The Youth Safety Lead will be responsible for the safety of young people at our life-affirming events that we have been delivering since 1998.

Our events range from small scale digital events to large high intensity, 400+ dance events. The Youth Safety Lead will be responsible for managing the youth safety in these spaces through event risk safety planning, leading a team of contractor youth workers, and delivery upholding Child Safety Practices and our policies.

In addition, the Youth Safety Lead is responsible for ensuring our events, programs, practices and procedures are upholding Child Safety Standards and industry best practice.

major responsibility areas

Youth Safety Within Programs:

  • Attend all digital & in-person Youth Events (which includes interstate travel)
  • Support in the planning, delivery and supervision of child safety at all events including in-person & digital
  • Coordinating Youth Support for high school ages attendees and supervising Youth Safety at events.
  • Supervising and providing hands on support at Minus18 program delivery
  • Facilitate event Youth Safety briefing & debriefing including the creation and organisation of relevant documentation
  • Being the direct report for youth workers during both online and in person events
  • Responding to critical incidents and following correct process/policy
  • With support from the Youth & Events team, coordinate and complete youth safety component of risk assessments
  • Develop post event reporting on Youth Safety & Engagement.
  • Facilitating activities during Youth events and programs
  • Support and advise the Event Coordinator to respond to safety enquiries from parents, carers or any other FAQ’s

Youth Safety Coordination:

  • Develop and maintain a national database of volunteer Youth Workers to support our events.
  • Recruit, coordinate and lead a team of contracted Youth Workers for each event
  • Be responsible for the onboard of new contracted Youth Worker staff for our events on Minus18’s Youth Safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and arrange payments for Youth Workers for all events

Youth Safety Practices:

  • Provide ongoing education to internal teams on Minus18’s Youth Safety practices and policies
  • Consult with internal stakeholders to ensure child safety practices are being utilised in all Youth Facing activities
  • Support in ensuring that our Youth Worker Handbook and other Youth Safety process guides are maintained
  • Working with the Operations Manager to respond to any changes in industry standards related to Youth Safety

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS (KEY SELECTION CRITERIA)

  • Hold a Bachelor of Youth Work, Certificate IV in Youth Work, Diploma of Youth Work or Community Services or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role or discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to openly engage and build trust with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated understanding of prevalent issues affecting LGBTQIA+ young people
  • Strong lived experience and understanding of diverse identities within the LGBTQIA+ community (including but not limited to trans / gender diverse, and/or people of colour).
  • Demonstrated passion for Minus18’s mission to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth and inspire social change.
