Mill House provides social enterprises with the capability, investment and resources to start up, access markets and grow. 

The role:

This role has two components:

  1. managing the development of a group of social enterprises, and
  2. contributing to the broader operations and growth of the GRIST program

Enterprise development:

The role is responsible for helping Social Enterprise Accelerator participants build the necessary knowledge, skills and capability for their enterprise proposals to become viable and investment-ready through group and individual coaching. 

This role will work closely with a small team to:

  • liaise with participants in an ongoing advisory and coaching role
  • facilitate group discussion in a workshop setting
  • critically evaluate business plans and other written deliverables in order to identify gaps and resolve issues

Contribution to the broader operations and growth of the Accelerator program:

The role will contribute to the broader operations and continued growth of the Accelerator program and our impact through areas including business mentor engagement and management, workshop management and facilitation, and program design.

Key focus areas:

Core Focus - Enterprise Development:

  • Lead consultation, advice and facilitation of problem-solving with a number of the enterprises participating in the Mill House Social Enterprise Accelerator Program
  • Work collaboratively with a small team to identify immediate development issues amongst the participants
  • Participate in Accelerator Program sessions and workshops, facilitating group discussion and feedback (in conjunction with CEO)
  • Evaluate participants’ business plans and other written deliverables in order to provide feedback and advice to resolve critical issues
  • Assist with pipeline development, social enterprise recruitment and selection
  • Identify improvement opportunities in The GRIST methodology and tools in conjunction with the Mill House Team

In conjunction with the above core focus on Enterprise Development, the role will also take on one or more of the following focus areas; Business Mentor Management, Workshop Facilitation and Management and/or Program Design. 

Business Mentor Management:

  • Manage relationships with existing mentoring partners
  • Identify skill requirements for enterprises and source suitable matches from mentor pool
  • Work with partners to identify, inform and recruit potential mentors of the opportunity
  • Create a strong mentor community throughout the GRIST program
  • Develop a strategy for managing mentor alumni and growing the benefits we provide to the mentor community
  • Ensure Mill House continues to be known for offering a unique, innovative and life-changing mentor experience

Workshop Facilitation & Management:

  • Manage the workshop calendar for all Enterprise Development focused workshops
  • Maintain and continuously improve existing workshop content as well as scope, design and deliver a range of new workshops
  • Identify opportunities to grow the workshops beyond traditional audiences

Program Design:

  • Contribute to ongoing program design improvements, potentially taking ownership of key pieces or modules of design

Key skills and attributes:

The successful applicant for this role will need to demonstrate the following:

Strong skills and experience in:

  • Business analysis
  • Coaching and business advisory
  • Process facilitation and group facilitation

Strong understanding of:

  • Business strategy and business fundamentals
  • Financial forecasting and financial statements
  • Social enterprise and/or small business

An ability to:

  • Present effectively to large groups and articulate clear messages
  • Problem-solve in a business context and generate ideas for innovation and improvement
  • Deliver clear and practical feedback to enterprises on business plans and strategy
  • Work within a structured process
  • Flex between group facilitation & development and individual development
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse group of social enterprises, colleagues and partners to achieve outcomes
  • Work at all levels and to pitch in and get the work done

A high level of understanding of community issues and an affinity with social enterprise is also required.
