The role:

The primary objective of the position is to support the implementation and coordination of the Settlement programs to equip eligible clients in the West, Inner Melbourne and Southern Metropolitan Region, to address their identified settlement needs in order to improve their social participation, economic well-being, independence, personal well-being and community connectedness more broadly.

The Team Leader is responsible for the provision and monitoring of high quality settlement services including, intake and referral, case management, group work initiatives and stakeholder engagement. The Team Leader also supports the Manager with contract compliance and budget. The position operates within MiCare’s Settlement Services team. The Team Leader is responsible for overseeing services that support the settlement journey of eligible clients.

  • Ensure the provision of high quality settlement services to support eligible clients’ journey towards improving social participation, economic well-being, independence, personal well-being and community connectedness. With a particular focus on the 3 Es (employment readiness, engagement with education and training, and activities that facilitate the acquisition of English language)
  • Develop, maintain, monitor, and evaluate settlement programs, ensuring appropriateness for clients
  • Provide support and practice advice to staff in various aspects of service provision including; intake, case management, group work and information sessions
  • Undertake casework and group work within the position as required
  • In collaboration with staff, initiate and implement responsive group-work activities, aimed at increasing the community connection and capacity of newly arrived individuals, their families and communities during the settlement process. This includes but not limited to information sessions and consultations
  • Ensure Settlement programs reflect the relevant National Settlement Standards and Frameworks. Apply relevant evidence based best practice to improve service delivery
  • Monitor KPI’s and activity against targets, and in consultation with Manager, take corrective action when necessary
  • Liaise and report to Manager around all aspects Settlement Services delivery and provide reports as required within timeframes. Work with Manager to manage programs within budget
  • Identify opportunities for additional funding to support service delivery areas. Assist staff to apply for funding, adhere to funding body requirements, manage and monitor budgets, execute planned activities, and provide final reports and financial acquittals
  • Develop and maintain respectful relationships with key referral agencies, community groups and leaders and potential project partners in the region in order to improve service coordination and referral, avoid duplication and improve local collaboration
  • Attend local network meetings and forums and advocate for the needs of eligible clients
  • Respond to, and oversee, critical incidents and complaints as required. Adhere to mandatory reporting and children safety strategies. Ensure and promote safe work practices, procedures and instruction
  • Oversee and maintain client record and data management systems
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation at all times. Adhere to, and contribute to, the development and review of MiCare policies and procedures
  • Ensure all reporting requirements are fulfilled as per funding body’s requirements
  • Provide day-to-day site management across designated region, including oversight of administrative, staffing, and operational matters, responding to crises as needed
  • Other relevant activities as outlined in the work-plan negotiated with the Manager

Your qualifications:

  • Appropriate Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or other relevant human/social sciences

  • Demonstrated experience in working autonomously as well as collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams to achieve / exceed key performance goals
  • Strong administrative skills; including written communication, report writing, client data collection, organisational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated positive values of integrity, reliability, teamwork and professionalism with a demonstrated commitment to performance management, quality and continuous improvement principles
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to operational needs over various service delivery sites and programs using appropriate problem solving skills, ability to liaise with internal/external stakeholders to achieve outcomes
  • The ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner within an ethno-specific environment with a genuine commitment to access and equity principles
