Metro Assist (formerly Metro Migrant Resource Centre) is seeking a qualified Financial Counsellor to join our dynamic organisation which is committed to making a positive impact in people’s lives.

We are committed to social justice and empowering our clients to achieve their full potential in life. We provide settlement services, employment support, family services, emergency relief, tenancy advice, financial counselling and undertake community development projects and initiatives.

About the Role

If you are looking for an opportunity to support clients facing financial hardship to improve their financial capacity & literacy, then this role is for you.

Our service provides information and counselling to clients experiencing difficulties with their financial commitments.  We deliver face to face and virtual financial counselling services and provide casework support to clients who reside within the identified catchment area.  

The Financial Counsellor will work on a part time basis and provide information, options, support and advocacy for individuals, families and groups of consumers to explore, develop and implement strategies for redressing credit issues and other financial hardship.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Minimum Diploma in Financial Counselling and willingness to obtain accreditation with FCAN. 
  • Demonstrated assessment and casework experience working with low income and disadvantaged families and individuals, including working with CALD, Aboriginal or low-literacy communities.
  • Knowledge of service providers within the NSW non-government and government sectors and strong understanding of finance sector.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills that can be applied across multiple service delivery types; including casework; group work and training/community education.  
  • Knowledge and experience in community development, community liaison and advocacy.
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite.

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Experience in working with community based organisations and commitment to the values underpinning not-for-profit sector organisations.
  • Bilingual in a community language.
  • Current NSW driver’s licence and access to a comprehensively insured vehicle.
