Settlement Services International (‘SSI’) is a community organisation and social business that supports newcomers and other Australians to achieve their full potential. SSI works with people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, people with disability, and youth and children, to build capacity and enable them to overcome inequality.

The position

We are seeking to appoint an independent non-executive director to play a critical role in the delivery of strategy and governance for SSI.

You will feel energised and committed to the mission and outcomes of SSI and want to contribute to supporting SSI and its partners’ commitment to creating, measuring and achieving meaningful impact for both funders and clients. You will play an integral role in supporting impact for clients who experience exclusion and face barriers to achieving and contributing to social, civic and economic outcomes.

We are seeking non-executive directors who can demonstrate their skills and experience across most, if not all of the following areas:

• Sector / community involvement;
• Financial management and audit;
• Risk management;
• Political frameworks – understanding of the diverse political frameworks nationally and in each State and Territory;
• Human services sector application of the above skills and experience;
• In addition, experience in fundraising will be considered highly desirable; and
• Potential candidates will have the capability and capacity to chair either the Finance and Audit or Risk and Compliance board committees within the next 12 months.
