Location Profile

Community and Learning Melton (CaLM) Link Up program is registered as a campus of Melton Secondary College that is located in Kurunjang, Victoria. The Flexible Learning Option (FLO) program caters for up to 35 students from year 7 - 10. Many students have experienced a degree of trauma and present with learning difficulties, social/emotional and mental health issues, low attendance, and challenging behaviours.

The program has a team of highly trained staff including an Assistant Principal, Program Manager, five teachers, three Education Support staff and an Administration Assistant. The program aims to support students to re-engage with mainstream education or follow a positive pathway into further education or training. It is personalised and aligned with the year 7-10 Victorian Curriculum and supported by a therapeutic approach based on the Berry Street Education Model. Class sizes are small, and the academic program consists of literacy, numeracy, personal development, health, sport, nutrition, arts, music, technology, pathway planning and work-related skills.

ROLE

The CaLM Wellbeing Coordinator will work under the direction of the CaLM Assistant Principal, as well as work collaboratively with the FLO Leadership Team to support improvement in student wellbeing and engagement across the CaLM program.

The core work of the CaLM Wellbeing Coordinator is to:

  • lead proactive and preventative work relating to student wellbeing with the intention of building staff capacity to meet the wellbeing needs of students through professional development, modelling, promoting and consultation;
  • lead the development and implementation of early intervention strategies and raise mental health and wellbeing awareness;
  • ensure appropriate, consistent, and timely professional level wellbeing support is provided to students where mental health, wellbeing and behaviours of concern arise;
  • provide leadership, support, and guidance to the teaching and education support staff
  • The CaLM Wellbeing Coordinator will provide a coordinated response to the wellbeing and engagement needs of students and their families. They are required to refer to and use DET and CaLM policies and procedures.
