Melbourne Farmers Markets is a not-for-profit social enterprise connecting urban communities with Victorian farmers while promoting seasonal produce, biodiversity and sustainable farming practices. We manage accredited farmers’ markets across Melbourne, which means that there are no wholesalers or resellers, just real food direct from the people who produce it. Purpose of position
Working with the MFM team, the Market Day Manager will be responsible for the management of market day activities, including one market day (weekend) and one office day per week. As directed, the Market Day Manager will assist with the coordination of & communication with market stallholders, completing general office administration tasks and assisting with Event management and coordination.
Key responsibilities
- Event Management (Saturday and/or Sunday);
- Relationship Management;
- Contribution of content to MFM communications & management team;
- Assistance with event management administration and coordination.
Key selection criteria
- Understanding, awareness and ability to engage with diverse communities;
- Excellent interpersonal skills including written and verbal communications;
- Customer service & attention to detail;
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team;
- Supervision and management of volunteers;
- Ability to problem solve & ‘think on your feet’;
- Demonstrated understanding of the farmers’ market sector, Victorian seasonality and food/farming related issues;
- Work in the agricultural, food or events industries;
- Sound understanding of Microsoft programs and online filing/storage systems i.e. Sharepoint;
- A demonstrated passion for the local food industry;
- Managing finances and cash handling;
- Demonstrated commitment to occupational health and safety;
- Understanding of small business & not-for-profit dynamics;
- Excellent organisational skills;
- Current Provide First Aid & CPR certificate.
