Assistant Director - Clinical Coordination

McArthur is excited to partner with leading government agency, providing vital resources and support to current and ex-defence members in finding a passionate Assistant Director - Clinical Coordination to oversee and management the quality of client care, and provide leadership and support to a team of clinical and non-clinical staff members.

The role is for an initial engagement of 12months with view for extension up to 3 years.

The role will work in collaboration with the Regional Leadership Team to oversee the provision of clinical services across the region, within a stepped-care model. Being responsible for the following activities.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Oversee the quality of client care in the region, and provide clinical oversight, complex case management, and manage case escalation within a stepped-care model of service provision;
    • Provide ongoing consultation and advice to clinicians working with cases where risk is identified;
    • Ensure identified risk cases are regularly reviewed and ensure appropriate levels of support and care coordination is maintained;
    • Provide ongoing consultation and advice to clinical staff in the provision of services to clients with identified complex and/or multiple needs;
    • Maintain a clinical workload of complex clients as negotiated with Regional Director
  • Establish and maintain effective strategic relationships with specialist service providers and develop relevant referral pathways within the region;
    • Work cooperatively with other services, including medical, psychiatric, welfare, rehabilitation, emergency services, and Defence, and establish referral pathways to support the needs of Open Arms clients;
    • Undertake case coordination, coordinate case conferences, and lead and develop agency networks through a focused and planned community liaison/engagement approach to enable greater collaboration with existing service providers;
    • Proactively contribute to the development and review of case management policy, processes and frameworks within Open Arms and DVA as required
  • Maintain a current risk register on all Open Arms clients in the region where risk is identified and ensuring that current treatment and safety plans are in place and regularly reviewed;
    • Ensure that relevant case documentation and alerts in the Client Management System are current and appropriately accessible;
    • Support clinical staff and Peer Advisors to make effective decisions and maintain relevant documentation when working with clients with identified complex needs and/or changeable risk status;

  • Undertake line management responsibilities for members of the Complex Case Management Team inclusive of the Community Engagement Team (where one exists within the local region) and be responsible for the recruitment, selection, induction, supervision, performance management, security and welfare of such employees to ensure their ability to meet service delivery requirements:
    • Review and approve in-centre clinician case reports and maintain active awareness of the caseloads of in-centre clinicians (CCMT inclusive the Community Engagement Team) through the provision of regular operational supervision and coordination of clinical team meetings;
    • Oversee external supervisory arrangements for staff to ensure high quality service appropriate to the needs of Open Arms (CCMT);
    • Facilitate a professional development program for the regional Peer Advisors based on the needs of Open Arms business priorities and in accordance with identified professional development requirements;
    • Ensure all individual staff are meeting their workload requirements and are maintaining active professional development and regular professional supervision;
    • For line managed staff, process leave applications, maintain staffing roster
  • As a member of the regional leadership group, participate in clinical and team meetings, and contribute to the National Management Team, departmental projects and committees as required. Deputise and act for the Regional Director as required.
    • Represent Open Arms at stakeholder events, community development activities, and related activities in consultation with the Regional Director, as required;
    • Provide advice to the Assistant Director Clinical Operations and the Regional Director on any professional development requirements of clinical staff as identified;
    • Demonstrate leadership behaviours and workplace practices in line with policies of WH&S, Workplace Diversity and the Australian Public Service values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct.
  • Actively contribute to Open Arms National projects, clinical policies and procedures, research initiatives and Quality Assurance activities as required:
    • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Open Arms clinical policies and procedures and to the implementation of related counselling and case management practices at the local level;
    • Provide oversight of Quality Assurance issues related to evidence based clinical practice across Open Arms programs and projects within the region;
    • Undertake regional coordination of, and actively contribute to, clinical research projects being undertaken across Open Arms.

Mandatory clinical qualifications

  • Qualifications must be that of a psychologist or accredited mental health social worker.
  • Qualified psychologists must have current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA).
  • Mental health accredited social workers must be registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Working with Children (WWC) and/or Vulnerable People Checks/Clearance must be obtained prior to commencing in the position.
  • Both psychologists and mental health social workers must have extensive clinical and relevant management experience.
