Margaret Tucker Hostel was established in 1983 to provide supported crisis accommodation to young Aboriginal women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The hostel supports young Aboriginal women who are aged from 15-18 years of age to provide supported crisis accommodation for up to 6 weeks to young Aboriginal women and their children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The hostel provides a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal women and their children where they are supported to seek longer term and more secure housing options and fully prepared them for independent living.
You will be responsible for:
- working closely with our residents to assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate a support plan which transitions to independent living
- building supportive relationships to encourage and empower young women to make positive decisions
- work with other members of the team and community to secure longer term housing options
- completion of the admission and induction checklists
- supporting and encouraging young women in their Aboriginal culture
- compliance with all health and safety policies and obligations within the hostel.
You will need:
- to be empathic and understanding of the issues
- strong problem solving capabilities
- the ability to plan and achieve desired outcomes for young women
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- exposure or experience in dealing with drug and alcohol dependency and mental health issues
- Qualifications in Youth Work or related discipline or equivalent
- experience of interest in working with crisis support services
- knowledge of housing pathways an advantage
- current working with children check (or willingness to apply for one)
- National police check
- First Aid certificate or willingness of obtain one.
