Michael Berkman, the newly elected Greens Member for Maiwar, is currently recruiting for an Electorate Officer to work with him in the community, the electorate office and parliament. The electorate office is based at 1/49 Station Road, Indooroopilly.

About the Role

The Electorate Officer provides support to the Member of Parliament in their role serving the electorate and representing the electorate in parliament.

The Electorate Officer reports to the Member of Parliament. The Electorate Officer may be responsible for the supervision of an Assistant Electorate Officer/s depending on the organisation of work within the electorate office.

The duties and responsibilities of the Electorate Officer include:

  • Providing high level confidential secretarial, executive and administrative support services for the Member.
  • Assisting the Member with the day to day operations and management of the electorate office, particularly in the absence of the Member.
  • Assisting with general enquiries from constituents concerning a wide range of community, social and political issues.
  • Preparing reports, briefs and correspondence related to the business of the electorate, for the information and attention of the Member on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensuring the Member is informed of developments within the electorate particularly during absences from the electorate on parliamentary business.
  • If required and as directed by the Member, undertaking some or all electorate media responsibilities.
  • If required, assisting the Member with the management of the Members accounts and Acquittal System records.

Electorate Officers are Parliamentary Service employees. The terms and conditions of employment of Electorate Office Staff are outlined in the Parliamentary Service Act 1988, the Queensland Parliamentary Service Award – State 2015, relevant Certified Agreements and administrative arrangements approved by the Clerk of the Parliament or the Speaker.

Salary range: $2,420.60* to $3,347.50 per fortnight

*Newly appointed staff commence at this level. Applicants may be considered for a higher salary level in situations where for example, the successful candidate is an existing Queensland Public Sector employee or has previous service in the office of a State or Federal Member of Parliament or Councillor of a Local Government.

Recruitment will be for a full-time position, with job share arrangements considered.

The successful applicant will be required to submit a National Criminal History Check prior to appointment.
