The MIECAT Institute is a TEQSA accredited higher education provider which is approved by ANZACATA – the peak body of creative arts therapies in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. MIECAT offers a part-time Masters in Therapeutic Arts Practice and part-time Professional Doctorate in Therapeutic Arts Practice.
Our approach seeks congruence between what is taught and how it is taught. The dynamic process of inquiry invites students to be curious, challenged and immersed in a community of co-learners. The Institute creates opportunities for learners to reconstruct understandings of experience, values and meanings, to enrich professional practice and to contribute creatively to society.
MIECAT values multi-modal, experiential, emergent and relational, arts-based approaches in the exploration of meaning-making and sensing, and the choices for action. This form of inquiry, relevant to those working with others in education, counselling, community health, welfare and organisational sustainability, as well as those exploring their own studio-based inquiries, is based in respect, compassion and commitment to the search for ways of living that support the flourishing of humankind and the planet.
This academic role is expected to contribute to MIECAT’s teaching and supervision of postgraduate students. The role includes preparation and delivery of hands-on experiential classes, assessment and collaborating with colleagues. Due to the nature of the teaching timetable suitable candidates must have the ability to work outside of normal office hours when required, as well as being comfortable delivering some classes in an online learning environment.
The role is also expected to contribute towards establishing a positive learning environment, a range of administrative functions, attending relevant meetings and adhering to institute policies.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced educator with arts-based inquiry experience, and a passion for creating a positive and engaging learning environment for students. They will be an excellent communicator, reflexive, relationally responsive, creative, and collaborative.
MIECAT is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a work and study environment that values the rich diversity of its community. We are committed to providing equitable, inclusive, and accessible learning and work environments, where all members of the MIECAT community can feel respected, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential. Our aim is to create a workforce that reflects the community in which we live.
We encourage and welcome applications from individuals from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disabilities, people from different cultural backgrounds and sexually and gender diverse people.
