The Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association (MDAA) is the peak, state-wide advocacy agency for people with disability and carers from non-English speaking (NES) and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

Essential selection criteria:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, or similar experience in the human services sector
  • Experience in working with people with disability, people from CALD backgrounds and people who have experienced trauma
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to social justice principles including the rights of people with disability from CALD backgrounds
  • Demonstrated individual and systemic advocacy skills including the ability to identify structural barriers that prevent the human rights of people with disability being upheld, the root causes of these barriers, and solutions
  • Excellent research and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Accountability and good time management skills
  • Must be willing to undertake a police check (government requirement) prior to commencement and have no serious offences that may affect working with vulnerable people

Desirable selection criteria:

  • Ability to speak a community language other than English

This is a part time position, four days per week (30 hours/week) at Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010: Grade 4.1 to 4.3, (depending on experience) with salary packaging available. The contract will commence immediately and is funded until the end of June 2023. The right candidate must be willing to undertake the following and provide evidence, as appropriate:

  • Travel in regional NSW to promote DRC work and run information sessions or workshops
  • Apply basic technological skills including use of computer, database entry, online apps such as Zoom, and video and voice recording
  • And can be available for an immediate start
