Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health (MCWH) is a national, community-based organisation which is led by and for women from migrant and refugee backgrounds. MCWH works together with migrant and refugee women, community organisations, health practitioners, employers, communities and governments to build and share knowledge, achieve equity and improve health and wellbeing for migrant and refugee women.
MCWH is recruiting for 2X Research, Advocacy and Policy Officers to build the capacity of MCWH to advocate on behalf of migrant and refugee women through research, policy and communication activities. Issues that MCWH advocates on include mental health, sexual and reproductive health, gender equality and preventing violence against women.
In line with the exceptions and exemptions outlined in the Equal Opportunity Act 2010, Section 28, MCWH actively seeks to employ women from immigrant and refugee backgrounds.
This is a fixed term role, 4 days per week until July 20, 2023.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and policy analysis related to key issues impacting migrant and refugee women’s health
- Translate research into published policy papers, WRAP articles, easy-to-read documents and reports, and other reports as needed
- Prepare policy and other government submission documents
- Collaborate with partners and key stakeholders to formulate policy positions for the benefit of migrant and refugee women’s health
- Implement MCWH research activities and projects, including recruiting and supporting participants, conducting interviews with stakeholders, organising and facilitating CoPs, preparing reports and policy papers
- Monitor project budgets
- Evaluate projects and prepare project reports for the funding body
- Represent MCWH and present project findings on roundtables, consultations, working groups and conferences as required
- Provide research assistance and input into the development of funding submissions
- Conduct communication activities relating to MCWH policy positions
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
- At least 2 years’ qualitative research training and/or experience in collecting, managing and/or analysing research data
- Demonstrated project administration skills with the ability to support research projects in accordance with agreed standards and timeframes
- Strong organisational skills and strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Highly developed advocacy, research, policy development and communication skills
- Facilitation, communication, negotiation and liaison experience with a wide range of organisations and stakeholders of varying backgrounds
- Excellent analytical and writing skills, including the ability to draft a range of documentation for a broad audience range
- Computer literacy
- Highly developed understanding of migrant and refugee women’s health and gender equality from a feminist, intersectional perspective
Highly Desirable
- Research, policy and advocacy experience in migrant women’s health
- Experience working with migrant and refugee communities on health promotion
- Fluency in a language other than English
- Victorian drivers licence
Special Requirements
- Some evening or weekend work may be required from time to time
- The candidate must be able to work from home and a hybrid working from home/office arrangement may become possible/necessary
- Up to date COVID-19 vaccinations (unless a medical exemption applies)
