Master Builders ACT is seeking an experienced lawyer to join us as a Workplace Relations & Legal Adviser to provide member services to the building and construction industry. This role is ideal for a legal practitioner with a current ACT Practising Certificate (or ability to obtain one) and 3 – 5 years’ litigation experience in areas of industrial relations, work health and safety (WHS) and building and construction law.

The Role

The Workplace Relations and Legal Adviser provides strategic and technical advice in the areas of industrial relations, work, health and safety (WHS) and building and construction law to members of the Master Builders Association of the ACT (MBA ACT). This role will also assist with the provision of services to MBA Legal.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • be the first point of call for members enquiries to assist and provide sound support in the areas of industrial relations, work, health and safety (WHS) and building and construction
  • work with other MBA ACT staff to provide high quality customer service and advice to members and other key stakeholders
  • provide assistance and advocate for MBA ACT members in matters before the Fair Work Commission
  • assist MBA ACT members with the preparation, negotiation and approval processes relating to enterprise agreements
  • contribute to policy positions and papers, as required
  • contribute to online Member Alerts and publications for MBA ACT members, as required
  • deliver training sessions/seminars to members on topics relating to industrial relations, building and construction law, and work, health and safety (WHS), contracts and general industry advice
  • have direct contact with MBA ACT members (across a variety of sectors) and establish and maintain networking opportunities with a variety of stakeholders
  • attend meetings of the Association’s Commercial Builders Council, Civil Contractors Council, Residential Council and Suppliers and Sub-Contractor Councils
  • perform professional services through MBA Legal, in matters including, but not limited to:
    • drafting, review and provision of legal advice in relation to contracts,
    • building and construction law including debt recovery, dispute resolution and litigation,
    • industrial relations and work, health and safety
