Lifeline Direct (LLD) is the direct service delivery arm and a fully owned subsidiary of Lifeline Australia (LLA). It was initially established to provide a consolidation pathway for local Lifeline Centres to share resources, skills and experiences in developing a strong service coordination, a culture seeking operational excellence, shared governance activities and improved outcomes for help seekers.

The premise of LLD as the direct service delivery arm means that, LLD delivers Lifeline’s 24/7 national crisis support service via 13 11 14 as well as a range of other services including face to face counselling, telehealth services and training. More recently our services have expanded to deliver some of Australia’s most vital free helpline services including MensLine Australia, Suicide Call Back Service, and SuicideLine Victoria.

About the role

The 13 11 14 Telephone Crisis Support service offers support to people in crisis and emotional distress.

The Crisis Supporter – Graduate Counsellor is a program designed to support newly qualified clinicians in obtaining experience and career development opportunities within Lifeline. This role will have training, support and stage hurdles that must be successfully achieved prior to being eligible for career counselling opportunities. The key objective is to help callers to 13 11 14 find immediate relief from emotional distress.

About you

You are a passionate, empathetic and open minded person. You may have a background in social work, counselling or equivalent and possible experience in suicide intervention. Your strong communication skills along with your ability to work with a diverse range of people, families and carers, will be an asset for the role. You are driven to make a difference in people's lives whilst supporting at risk people to stay safe, you yourself may have lived experience.

What the position requires

  • You will be a recently qualified counsellor, registered nurse, social worker or psychologist.
  • Willing to undertake training and practice in the Lifeline Crisis Supporter CARE Practice Model framework.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written English and communication skills.
  • An ability to express empathy and respect for others.
  • A capacity to understand and help others while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Training Dates – commence 1 December 2023.

A commitment to all training dates is a requirement to successfully become a Crisis Supporter. The cost of training is included and your hours for training are paid. The training is conducted via Zoom and will be commencing in December 2023.

Additional eLearning is required to be successfully completed as allocated between these dates. Final observation shifts of 4 hours are required to apply the skills you have learned in training
