About the role 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, client focussed & qualified Disability Support Worker to join our team in the North eastern Suburb of Mill Park. The available role has a roster with a mix of morning & afternoon shift rosters.

Our house is an all-male house and is situated in Mill Park, walking distance to Westfield Shopping Centre and perfect for community participation and active support activities. Staff confident with complex needs customers who are non-verbal and have specific medical needs would be an advantage. We find happiness in music and calm, patient support workers. Support is required in all aspects of our lives but encouragement to learn new skills and enhance skills known is responsive. We are interested in getting involved in the community so the ability to drive us is paramount. Our support network includes our families and inclusion and engagement with them is essential for our relationships.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide quality direct support to service users in line with their support needs, the programs they are accessing, and all support plans including the service users Individual Plan
  • Increase the service users’ skills through independence, personal growth and development through the provision of active support and their enhanced participation as a valued member of their community
  • Implement development programs and identify and support learning opportunities for service users
  • Assist in the delivery of programs that facilitate service users’ development of social networks and inclusion in community activities

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum Cert IV Qualified in Disability, Community Welfare or similar 
  • A current Senior First Aid (level 2) Certificate
  • A current unrestricted Driver Licence
  • Hold or willing to obtain the NDIS workers screening check
  • A commitment to supporting and promoting the individual needs, skills, abilities and personal goals of people with disabilities
  • The ability to develop a positive relationship with service users and to support their Individual Personal Plan

In order to be compliant successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including a National Criminal History Record Check and an International Criminal History Record Check; if you have resided for 12 months or more outside of Australia in the last 10 years. A Working with Children Check & NDIS workers screening check is also required (where relevant to the role) and a current Victorian Driver's Licence is essential.

To be considered for and appointed to a position at Life Without Barriers, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or hold a valid medical exemption certificate. You will be required to provide evidence of your vaccination status during the recruitment process.

Roster splits are 47:30/41:30 – The roster is a mix of Morning, & Afternoon shifts. The roster has a requirement to work 2 weekends a month.
