About Elizabeth Street Common Ground

Supportive Housing is an innovative approach to housing people who have experienced long term homelessness and who have high and complex needs. Our Elizabeth Street Common Ground (ESCG) development is the first of its kind in Australia and is based on five key elements:

  • Permanent: offering self-contained, high quality housing
  • Safe: 24 hour staffing and controlled secure access to the building and apartments
  • Affordable: with rents set at a maximum of 30% of income
  • Supportive: with onsite supports to help stabilise and sustain housing
  • Diverse: a social mix of tenants ensuring a thriving community

How you'll make a difference

The position of Volunteer Hair Dresser / Barber is a minimum one day per fortnight (up to 4 hours per session) role that will provide hair cuts and styles to residents of ESCG.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Concierge and Administration Worker on shift to enhance access to residents and ensure communication to Case Managers is concise and timely.

You will be adhering to all safety systems; setting up the foyer temporary salon in preparation for sessions; promoting and showcasing future bookings, positively engaging residents pre and post sessions and assisting with the packing/setting up of spaces.

What we're looking for (key selection criteria):

  • Qualifications and/or experience as a Hairdresser/ Barber
  • Experience in customer service / service environment
  • Highly energetic and enthusiastic personality with excellent interpersonal and communication skills in particular verbal;
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities;
  • National Police Check;
  • Working with Children Check; and
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory training requirement such as Child Safe, WH&S
