Our Research, Evaluation and Data (RED) Team have a newly created role for a Government Policy & Advocacy Specialist to join them.

You'll have the chance to shape this role and the ways in which we drive advocacy at Launch Housing.

What you'll be doing

One of your key priorities will be to contribute to the development and implementation of Launch Housing’s advocacy and policy plan. You'll lead the development of strong policy papers, position statements, and submissions to external enquiries.

You will cultivate partnerships that enable Launch Housing to influence key stakeholders across Government, Peak bodies, and the homelessness sector.

We'll look to you to have your finger on the pulse and be well across sector news and developments. You'll share your learnings regularly across the organisation through writing thematic papers, internal quarterly updates, and coordinating a seminar series.

You will:

  • Lead the development of submissions and policy briefs for state and federal government enquiries and other agencies.
  • Work closely with the Partnerships & Engagement team and relevant Launch Housing staff on advocacy efforts.
  • Lead the development of a Launch Housing Insights Papers series for both internal and external audiences.
  • Lead submissions to journals such as Parity and submit abstracts to conferences.
  • Work with the Group Manager – RED to evaluate the impact of Launch Housing’s advocacy work.
  • Be a lead writer for Launch Housing’s Annual Impact Report.
  • Manage staff

What we're looking for (key selection criteria):

It is essential that you can demonstrate experience working with Governments in an advocacy role. Strong writing skills, including experience writing policy papers, articles and external submissions are a must.You will also have:

  • Experience in leading the development of policies, position statements and briefing papers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience presenting complex information in an engaging and accessible way.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply contemporary research practices and critical thinking skills.
  • Superior organisational skills and experience in dealing with complexity, juggling priorities, and working to deadlines.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, political science or a related discipline or equivalent relatable experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of Launch Housing and our mission to end homelessness.
