What you'll be doing

The Coordinator – Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) is a leadership role within the Launch Housing Foundational Support function reporting to the Service Manager – Inner Melbourne Crisis Accommodation.

In this role, you'll be responsible for 4-5 direct reports. You'll provide your team with effective leadership and practice knowledge as they deliver services from and to the Inner Melbourne Crisis Accommodation and other services across Launch Housing. You'll ensure we have an effective, consistent, and high-quality AOD service offer to all clients in accordance with housing first principles (harm reduction & dignity of risk) and trauma informed approach reflected within Launch Housing Practice Framework standards.

You'll work collaboratively with the Homelessness Solutions & Impact Health & Wellbeing Function in developing an AOD & Harm Reduction approach across Launch Housing services.

You will:

  • Ensure a consistent and best-practice approach to case management, community engagement and support, as well as managing the impact of critical incidents on staff.
  • Under the direction of the Service Manager, maintain operational budgets, monitor and maintain records of expenditure within the program, and ensure compliance with relevant guidelines.
  • Ensure the program or service complies with AOD funding and service agreements, professional standards and relevant legislation, policies and guidelines.
  • Provide leadership using trauma informed practices, applying Housing First principles and using a Harm Reduction approach to ensure the provision of consistent and high-quality services and outcomes for clients.
  • Ensure onboarding and induction of all new staff is completed in a compliant and timely manner.
  • Work with and report to the Service Manager – Long Term Housing as part of the Health & Wellbeing portfolio on AOD strategy for the organisation and growth potential for the service.
  • Participate in the on-call roster.

What we're looking for (key selection criteria):

  • Completed AOD core competencies and other AOD specific training and education and demonstrated understanding of and experience in delivery of AOD services.
  • An understanding of homelessness and the issues affecting people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others towards effective client solutions.
  • Experience supporting staff who work with people with complex needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Leadership qualities including a high degree of initiative and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • A valid Victorian driver’s license (mandatory).
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in human services (highly desired).
