LECNA Family Support and Skilling Queenslanders for Work

LECNA has been delivering a unique life skills education program to the community (both funded and unfunded) for over 20 years. This incredible ten-week program covers topics ranging from managing emotions, effective communication, understanding how the brain works and cognitive behavioural therapy. This ten week program has traditionally been offered 4 times a year at the centre. We want this person to deliver this program to SQW participants and others. Skilling Queenslanders for Work is a new program for LECNA and we are excited to be assisting diverse job seekers to successfully participate in the local labour market and help local businesses meet their staffing needs. We will be offering 3 blocks of a 12 week program of Certificate 2 in Food Processing with Workplace Training Strategies.

Position summary

This role will be responsible for managing the participants of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Food Processing program and delivering the Life Skills program. The Learning Mentor role will seek referrals, source employment and work placement options for students, support mentors and support SQW participants. They will also be responsible for measuring outcomes and following up participants post-training. The Learning Mentor needs to be a confident, self-motivated, technology savvy with the ability to work with a range of clients and stakeholders.

Key accountabilities

  • Develop marketing and promotions strategy and resources targeting local community for SQW.
  • Meet key performance indicators with regard to participant enrolment, training completion and employment outcomes for LECNA’s SWQ program.
  • Effective and engaging delivery of the Life Skills education program for SQW participants by liaising with the employment service provider staff delivering the program.
  • Resource, plan and deliver a range of group-based and/or individual client support and job readiness activities (such as programs/career information sessions, job readiness workshops, one-on-one intensive job search support and interview coaching, industry visits, guest speakers).
  • Actively engage relevant local employers to secure work experience opportunities and post-program employment for program participants.
  • Measure, analyse, evaluate and report on program outcomes to the LECNA Board and relevant stakeholders.
  • Work within the ethos and values of Logan East Community Neighbourhood Association.

Key performance indicators

  1. Engagement of new organisations as referrers to the program.
  2. Consistent achievement of set program client outputs and outcomes as agreed with Management, including referrals, attendance, and case plan development and goal achievement.
  3. Effective management and monitoring of the Life Skills Education Mentor program for SQW participants including individual goals, retention and referrals.
  4. Skilling QLD’er for Work Food Processing students are supported to maximise the chances of achieving the goal of over 50% of those who complete the course gaining employment and at least 65% completing the certificate.
  5. Maintenance of an organisational culture consistent with the purpose, mission, values and motto statements of LECNA;
  6. Establish and maintain a collaborative, harmonious and effective working relationship with the LECNA Managers and other staff and volunteers.

Key selection criteria

  1. Excellent written and verbal, particularly interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to develop positive working relationship with a range of external stakeholders including individuals, service providers, training organisations and employers.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of Australian job search techniques and application processes and the underpinning employability skills employers look for in candidates.
  3. Skills in undertaking comprehensive risk assessments, intensive case management and coordination, ability to manage and monitor the Life Skills Education program and support the delivery of SQW.
  4. A proven ability to work without direct supervision, exercising a high degree of initiative, judgement and decision making in individual case work while fostering a strong team environment.
  5. Demonstrable experience in the delivery of human services programs, preferably with a training and employment focus.
  6. Facilitation skills and the capacity to develop knowledge and understanding of the content and pedagogical practice of the life-skills course needed in order to be able to teach the course.

Desirable

  • Experience in planning and supporting the delivery of Skilling Queenslanders for Work or similar training and employment programs.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
