This position is funded under Commonwealth Government Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) Program. The service aims to equip humanitarian entrants and other vulnerable migrants (other vulnerable young people) from Afghan community with the knowledge and skills to identify, understand and take action to address their identified settlement needs. The service activity has a focus on social participation, economic well-being, independence, personal well-being and community connectedness.

This position is with the Kateb Hazara Association (KHA), the lead of the NSW Afghan Settlement Partnership (NASP) Consortium that includes three other Afghan-led organisation. We offer a 3-year contract under Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Industry Award 2010, Level 4. Please read the attached Duty Statement for more information.

Essential Selection Criteria

  1. Qualifications in casework, community welfare, social work, health or the social science or significant experience in the area.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of Australian settlement and other services relevant to refugees and humanitarian entrants.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in casework, advocacy, partnership building and community liaison in a multicultural context.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of settlement issues affecting individuals, families and communities from Afghan background.
  5. Demonstrated experience in triage, casework, provision of information and client referrals.
  6. Demonstrated skills and experience in groupwork.
  7. Good written and oral communication skills in English and Dari; including computer literacy, and report writing.

With us, you will:

  1. Deliver triage and intake services that provide the opportunity for an initial needs-based assessment to be undertaken that determines the level of support required by the client.
  2. Provide low and medium-intensity casework support to clients requiring minimal assistance to meet their settlement needs and achieve their goals.
  3. Provide medium-intensity casework support to clients who are identified as requiring this through the needs assessment, which targets individual needs.
  4. Strengthen relationships with other settlement and mainstream services at the operational level. This may include advocating with services for improved referral pathways and developing informal or formal partnerships.
