ABOUT JUBILEE AUSTRALIA RESEARCH CENTRE

Jubilee Australia is a dynamic not-for-profit research and advocacy centre based on Gadigal Country (Surry Hills, Sydney). We partner with and amplify the voices of local communities in the fight against an extractive and unequal economic system, produce quality investigative research and advocate for just solutions that centre communities.

Our vision is a future where corporations and governments respect the voices of communities, do no harm, and people and their environments thrive in the Asia Pacific region.

Geographically, our work is focused on Australia, Papua New Guinea (including Bougainville), Fiji and elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region.

We work on many issues, including:

  • Empowering communities in the Pacific to exercise their right to free, prior and informed consent for mining projects on their land;
  • Fighting the first-ever coal mine and coal-fired power station being developed in PNG (and the Pacific);
  • Campaigning to prevent public finance from backing up the fossil fuel industry;
  • Fighting to stop Australia’s dirtiest offshore gas project: Santos’ Barossa Gas Project in the NT;
  • Collaborating with our PNG partners to Save the Amazon of our region, The Sepik, from a destructive copper and gold mine;
  • Advocacy targeting Australian connections to illegal logging, especially in PNG;
  • Changing Australian government policies that undermine sustainable economies and livelihoods and economic justice for our neighbours in the Pacific and beyond.
