Jabiru Community Services is a for-purpose social enterprise founded in 1986, which is centred on providing community support to children, young people, families and community members across greater Brisbane. Currently we are an organisation of just over 250 employees.

Jabiru’s Communities programs provide tailored support for children and families to promote and foster successful educational engagement through support with kindergarten and school transition programs, supported playgroups, parenting programs, individual family support, referrals to relevant services, and community engagement events.
The Role
Jabiru has an exciting opportunity to join the organisation in the role of Early Years Community Worker in a part-time capacity two - four days per week with the contract commencing January 2024 and ending 30 June 2024. Role responsibilities include:
- Delivery and planning of supported playgroups and kinder/prep transition support programs
- Driving of program delivery and outcomes
- Community/partner and stakeholder networking and engagement
- Parenting support programs for increasing parenting capacity and positive child wellbeing outcomes
- Therapeutic, small group work through targeted needs-based programs with a play-based approach
- Delivery in local schools and community locations
- Advocacy and provision of referral pathways
- Organisational and departmental reporting and accountability procedures
- Compliance with internal and departmental requirements for the collection of sensitive information, survey and evaluation data
- Case-noting and organisation of administrative procedures including compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
About you
- Relevant qualifications and experience in Social Work, Human Services, or Early Years Education
- Knowledge of and experience in supporting effective early childhood development; and the driving of outcomes for improvements in learning and development of children through the following elements:
- Culturally competent and inclusive practice
- Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Government frameworks and action plans, which aim to empower children and students to achieve their full learning potential
- Child centric practice
- Tailored and inclusive supports
- Targeting prevention and early intervention strategies
- Seamless and collaborative practice
- Evidence-informed planning and development
- Trauma informed practice with an understanding of the effects of early childhood trauma on brain development
- Commitment to contributing to targeted services that support families and children to reduce vulnerabilities, enhance protective factors, and create conditions to improve learning and development outcomes.
- Commitment to self-reflection and program evaluation through feedback procedures for continuous development of programs
- Demonstrated ability and skills in undertaking evidence-based research specific to design, planning and implementation of program development and delivery.
- Understanding of the National Principals for Child Safe Organisations
- Understanding or ability to efficiently acquire knowledge of relevant legislation including, but not limited to; Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld); Criminal Code (Child Sexual Offences Reform) and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2020; Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth); Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld); and Queensland Human Rights Act 2019.
