ReachOut is the most-accessed online mental health service for young people and their parents in Australia. Our trusted self-help information, peer-support program and referral tools save lives by helping young people be well and stay well. The information we offer parents makes it easier for them to help their teenagers, too.

About the role

As our Development team grows, this is an opportunity to join ReachOut’s friendly and diverse development team at an exciting time. We are kicking off a strategic roadmap of modern technologies and ideas, offering developers unmissable opportunities to learn, innovate, iterate and shape the future of the mental health space for young people.

As a mid-level developer, you will form a key part of ReachOut’s development team, being a part of the product and feature lifecycles. You will have the opportunity to be mentored by our senior developers, while also guiding the members of the team new to the world of software development.

You'll be responsible for:

• Translating product features and UX designs into applications and APIs.
• Developing solutions that are efficient, maintainable, secure and meet ReachOut’s duty of care requirements.
• Having input on development processes and best practice, and keeping on eye on ways we can constantly improve development at ReachOut.
• Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
• Undertaking a provided training course on web accessibility, and applying these learnings in practice.
• Resolving technical and product issues.

To be successful in the role, you need:

• At least 2 years of experience as a developer involved in the web stack, skills with HTML, CSS and modern JavaScript.
• Familiarity with a front-end framework like React or Angular.
• Familiarity with version control (We use git).
• Familiarity with software testing (unit testing, Jest).
• A willingness to deal with some legacy solutions and code when required.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.
• As a mid-level developer, a desire to extend your skills and development knowledge.
• Willingness to engage with ReachOut’s values.
