This Perth-based role involves being responsible for administering accurate and timely processing of the organisation’s HR and payroll function (for employees in both Australia and New Zealand) including assisting with employee payroll queries. It also involves providing support to our Chief Financial Officer in all areas of finance for operations in both Australia and New Zealand.

The role requires an experienced, reliable and organised accounts and payroll officer. The Accounts, HR and Payroll officer will work to support the Leadership Team and Project Leads and will be responsible for performing a number of financial duties, HR & payroll functions.

Essential skills and experience:

You will have:

  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in HR and payroll and/or finance and/or in a similar role
  • Advanced Microsoft Office/Google suite and Xero (or equivalent) skills, with an ability to become familiar with organisation programs and software
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation in one jurisdiction and a willingness to learn it for another
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to be flexible in the role
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, a friendly and professional demeanour with a positive, people-focused disposition
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Experience in an independent, low supervision work environment
  • National police clearance

Key tasks:

Payroll:

  • Prepare & process accurate fortnightly payroll; including new starts, transactions, expenses & additional third party payments (for employees in both Australia and New Zealand)
  • Respond to all employee queries in a timely & courteous manner
  • Prepare accurate payroll month end including but not limited to payroll journals & monthly superannuation payments
  • Prepare accurate payroll year end ensuring all accounts are reconciled with finance and payment summaries are sent to employees as per legislative requirements in both Australia and New Zealand

Human resources:

  • Ensure employee & position records are prepared & maintained accurately & in a timely manner
  • Prepare employee contracts & send to employee including all relevant paperwork
  • Ensure documentation is filed on employee HR folder
  • Notify all candidates of recruitment in timely & courteous manner

Accounts:

  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer in all aspects of finance including daily reporting and payment allocations, preparing monthly financial statements, monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and credit cards, process accruals & prepayments
  • Manage tax filing/payments including PAYG,PAYE and BAS returns
  • Assist with end of month reporting including the compilation of monthly project financial reports for project leads
  • Monthly accounts payable and accounts receivable invoicing and processing and being the point of contact for external invoice/payment queries
  • Effective professional relationships developed with internal stakeholders, especially project leads who maintain project budgets

Role details:

  • LOCATION: The successful candidate will be based in Subiaco
  • SALARY: Pro rata of up to $69,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • TYPE: For our team it is standard practice to offer a fixed term contract for one year at the outset, before considering permanent appointments. This includes the 6 month probation period. Our intention is for this to become a permanent role after the first year if the business pipeline and work is flourishing.
  • HOURS: 0.4FTE or 15 hours per week with days to be negotiated, but set. Our preferred working days for this role are Thursday and Friday. Core working hours for this role are 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT: Pro rata of 27 days annual leave plus public holidays relevant to your home state. An additional 3 days between Christmas and New Year is also customarily given at the Company’s discretion.
  • SUPERANNUATION: 9.5% superannuation contributions.
  • REPORTS TO: The Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer, Innovation Unit Australia New Zealand
