At Legal Aid WA, we continue to widen access to justice in a culturally safe and inclusive environment. We are committed to just and equitable treatment for First Nations people and communities. As a measure to achieve equality, section 51 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 applies to this position. First Nations people are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Civil Law Division currently has a number of fixed term positions available, working on projects with fixed term funding, and covering leave. The positions provide an excellent opportunity for practitioners to gain experience in unique areas of civil law.
We will also implement a pool recruitment process to fill fixed term, permanent, full time and part time vacancies that may arise over a period of 12 months from the date of finalisation of the recruitment process.
The Civil Law Division incorporates a number of services. This includes Elder Rights WA, NDIS Appeals, self-represented litigants service in the Federal Court, the Defence and Veterans Legal Service, Your Story – the Disability Royal Commission and services related to money, housing, work and migration. We are a multidisciplinary team of lawyers, social workers, coordinators, paralegals and support staff.
We are looking for a pool of dynamic and diverse lawyers to operate in the Civil Law Division, providing advice and representation services to clients, as well as engaging with key stakeholders. Ideally, you will have some experience working with clients who have experienced trauma and have an interest in working in a trauma-informed context, within a multi-disciplinary team. An understanding of the issues impacting the clients who access our services is highly regarded.
Law Graduates due to be admitted in Western Australia on or before 9 December 2022 are eligible to apply.
Legal Aid WA is an independent statutory authority funded by the State Government and Commonwealth Government. We provide services to over 100,000 clients each year in the areas of criminal, family and civil law across Western Australia.

We offer a strong team working environment and a range of benefits in line with business requirements, which may include professional development opportunities, flexible working and leave arrangements and a range of health and wellbeing initiatives.
