Job Purpose
We are looking for a Community Organiser to plan and implement initiatives to promote community engagement in the federal electorate of Flinders. Our Community Organiser will be responsible for identifying issues that relate to the Independent 4 Flinders group and finding ways to engage with and mobilise the community to share their views and get involved.
Organisation Profile
Independent 4 Flinders is a community organisation of concerned citizens with no formal affiliation with any political party. It was established in 2024 to identify and endorse a political candidate to represent the issues of concern to the residents of the Flinders electorate. We want to do politics differently. We want to invigorate and restore trust in democracy and ensure our elected representatives represent the values and concerns of the people, rather than a political party.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement community outreach and engagement strategies.
- Support and manage volunteers and develop activities they can participate in that further the aims of the group.
- Organise, facilitate and support meetings, neighbourhood huddles, events and workshops to promote dialogue and collaboration.
- Collect, collate and analyse community opinions on issues of concern.
- Prepare regular digital communications (email newsletters and social media posts) that promote issues relevant to the electorate, the community independents movement, and encourage people to get involved.
- Identify and connect with community and business leaders that support Independent 4 Flinders’ aims, to invite their endorsement of and participation in the group’s activities.
- Maintain relationships with sector partners - The Huddle, Community Independents Project, and Climate200.
- Manage expenditure within the budget.
- Report activities back to the organising group.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in community organising, politics, or related field
- Experience in community organising or related field
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and lead diverse groups of people
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- A high level of initiative and self-motivation
- Working knowledge of social media and other online communication tools, such as Google , Zoom, Slack
- Hold and maintain a Driver’s Licence
Terms of Employment
- Basis of Engagement: Contractor (payment on invoice)
- Hours: On average, 12 hours per week
- Days of work: Can be negotiated
- Pay Rate: $40.50 / hour
- Commence: asap
- Duration: 4 months (may be extended if additional funding becomes available)
- Location: Work from home; the successful applicant will be required to travel within the Flinders electorate
