About the role 

The role focus is to ensure our staff and advisory committee members with intellectual disabilities are fully included and supported to work as independently as possible with a strong emphasis on fostering well-being within the workplace.

Remote, accessible online support will be provided to each staff member on a weekly basis, using a mix of individual and group approaches for staff in various locations throughout Australia. There will be intermittent in-person support for attendance at member and other conferences (up to 6 per year) and government meetings (approx. 3 per year) which will involve interstate travel.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to staff through work task planning based on their individual needs daily, primarily through one-on-one support.
  • Provide accessible supports and workplace adjustments for individual staff working in different locations.
  • Coordinate with Job Access and other formal employment support services.
  • Actively support staff with disabilities to build their skills and capacity in the workplace
  • Support staff and advisory group members with an intellectual disability to participate in committees and government meetings.
  • Support Inclusion Australia’s continuous improvement in accessibility and inclusion by identifying areas for improvement, further training or support, and providing recommendations to the management team.
  • Provide well-being and debriefing support and escalate when needed.
  • Administrative support for staff with intellectual disabilities.

Inclusion Australia Governance - Our Voice and External Advisory meetings

  • Provide administrative support to include:
    • Preparation for attendance at conferences and meetings.
    • Support the development of content for a presentation or information to be shared.  
    • Provision of travel details to assist members with bookings.
    • In-person support at conferences and events. 

Selection criteria – qualifications, skills, and experience

  • Understanding of the role of Inclusion Australia in supporting the rights of people with an intellectual disability and their families
  • Previous experience in providing support, ideally in the workplace for people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Willingness to travel interstate for meetings and conferences.
  • Experience working inclusively alongside people with an intellectual disability.
  • Understanding and experience in trauma-informed approaches.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work productively as part of a team and independently.
  • Excellent general written and oral communication skills including Plain English and familiarity with Easy Read.
  • Excellent administrative, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work remotely from home (including excellent internet access).
  • Good computer literacy including Microsoft Office (especially Teams). 

Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications.
  • Personal or family experience of disability is highly regarded.
