About Us
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South East Queensland.
Regional Services includes our Allied Health team who are dedicated to managing the physical and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across South East Queensland. We offer several services within the IUIH network to Our Community including the Work it Out program, Exercise Physiology, Occupational Therapy, Audiology, Diabetes Education, Dietetics, Podiatry, Physiotherapy and Speech Pathology.
About the Role
In this role you will aim to improve ear health and provide Audiology services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in SEQ. This position is primarily clinical but also requires contribution to new and existing initiatives to further develop the audiology model.
- Provide culturally appropriate assessment and intervention for children and adults including screening programs
- Establish a client’s problems with hearing and listening by conducting interviews and studying background information (such as medical history)
- Access the extent and type of hearing loss using a range of techniques, including air and bone conduction audiometry, otoacoustic emissions and acoustic Immittance measures
- Liaise with existing mainstream services where complex audiological assessment or rehabilitation is required
- Liaise with health professionals including general practitioners; Ear, nose and throat specialists; and other specialists regarding patient care.
- Assist with supervision of student audiologists
About You
- Working knowledge of health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Drivers Licence with ability to travel across South East Queensland as required
- Current QLD Blue Card and Disability Worker Screening Check (Must have prior to commencement)
- Qualification of a Masters in Audiology
- Current Full membership with Audiology Australia with Certificate of Clinical Practice (CCP)
- Willing to obtain a Criminal History Check and Yellow Card for working with people with a disability
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
