Energy Finance Analyst - Australian LNG / Gas Sector

The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is in search of an experienced financial professional with knowledge of the Australian LNG/Gas sector to evaluate how this sector is being impacted by the global energy system transition towards decarbonisation. This position is for a remote work-based role and candidates may be located anywhere in Australia.

The Energy Finance Analyst will conduct and disseminate financial analysis on the Australian LNG and Gas sectors amid the transition to new energy technologies. This means critically analysing the future of the sector amid technology transition in power generation in Australia’s key LNG export destinations and as global capital moves to align with a global net zero emissions target for 2050. The Energy Finance Analyst will engage with internal and external stakeholders and advance the transition to renewables through exceptional financial modelling.

The successful candidate must possess a commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable energy economy. The analyst needs to be self-motivated, able to work independently, able to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines with limited direction while working remotely.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Five or more years’ relevant experience in finance, energy, engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with the LNG/Gas sector.
  • Experience analysing financial reporting, stocks, and investment portfolios.
  • Competence in presenting insights on the company’s financial performance.
  • Expert understanding of finance, economics and quantitative analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with good political judgment both orally and in writing.
  • High degree of technological proficiency in Excel and demonstrated ability to learn new software and applications.

Term and Schedule: Full or Part time 12 month fixed term employment contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement; Remuneration based on experience.
