Role and Context of Position

The Inner City Legal Centre offers generalist legal assistance to clients in the local area, as well as several specialist state-wide services including the Sex Worker Legal Service, the Employment Rights Legal Service, LGBTQ and the Trans and Gender Diverse legal service.

We are a dynamic community legal centre in Kings Cross committed to improving access to justice for disadvantaged groups. ICLC has a strong history of casework, law reform and advocacy on discrimination, domestic violence, human rights, crime, employment, family and other areas of law affecting our clients. ICLC is committed to building a diverse, inclusive community where everyone feels welcome.

The Employment Rights Legal Service (ERLS) is an innovative collaboration between Redfern Legal Centre, Inner City Legal Centre, and Kingsford Legal Centre to address the employment exploitation of migrant workers. The state-wide legal service provides legal assistance to marginalised workers and in particular migrant workers and international students. ERLS engages in law reform and policy work to effect systemic change and community legal education to build capacity for communities and marginalised workers.

About the position

The ERLS Solicitor is supervised by and reports to the Managing Principal Solicitor. The Solicitor works with the project coordinator, based at Redfern Legal Centre, as well as Kingsford Legal Centre solicitors.

The ERLS solicitor undertakes advice, casework, education and law reform in employment law to clients experiencing disadvantage across NSW, with a particular focus on migrants and international students. This includes work around unfair dismissal, unpaid wages and discrimination claims. The solicitor also delivers capacity building legal education workshops to a range of community and legal organisations. The role would suit an admitted lawyer with experience in employment law and a commitment to delivering legal services to diverse communities.
