Solar Citizens’ staff, volunteers and supporters work for an Australia powered by 100% renewable energy, where every person can generate, share and access clean, affordable and reliable power from the sun, wind and waves.

TOWNSVILLE ORGANISER

Queenslanders love solar, and the state is on the brink of a renewable energy boom, so this is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting contribution to Australia's renewable energy future. If you’re passionate about people power and making clean energy a reality for North Queensland, we want to hear from you. We’re looking for a dynamic and self-motivated person who has the skills, initiative and drive to grow, develop and support a thriving network of active volunteers in Townsville. You’ll recruit and roster volunteers to look after a campaign shopfront, organise events and network with renewable energy advocates in Townsville and beyond.

Location: Townsville
Remuneration: $66 000 per year, pro rata
Type of employment: Full time (part time negotiable), Temporary: July 14th-November 2nd

Here's what we're looking for. Does it sound like you?

The successful applicant will:

  • Have strong skills in leading and motivating volunteers, and the ability to work well with people from diverse walks of life and groups;
  • Be experienced in conceiving, organising and delivering community events;
  • Understand how to use campaign tactics to attract and build networks of active volunteers;
  • Have some experience with member databases, ideally Nationbuilder;
  • Communicate clearly and effectively;
  • Have a current driver's licence and be willing to travel as required, and undertake occasional after-hours or weekend work;
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm about the benefits of renewable energy.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting and training a core group of Townsville volunteers;
  • Co-ordinating a shopfront in the main street of Townsville, including developing a roster;
  • Organising renewable energy events and stalls;
  • Networking with other organisations and renewable energy advocates in Townsville.

Selection criteria:

  • A commitment to building Australia's renewable energy future;
  • Experience with social change campaigning and working with volunteers;
  • A high degree of autonomy and initiative;
  • Demonstrated organisational skills, effectiveness under pressure and capacity and willingness to work in a small interdependent team.

Desirable qualities:

  • Familiarity with Nationbuilder online system.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS

Solar Citizens is a flexible workplace with four weeks’ leave plus one week end-of-year closure.
