At Heart 2 Art we believe everyone has a story to tell. We believe in the power of unleashing a person's creative voice and reaching their potential. We provide professional and inviting, creative workshops and mentoring programs for people who want to join us on their creative journey. A major part of our service is our mobile workshops and creative mentoring workshops. These are for people of all ages and backgrounds as they are funded by NDIS. They are customised to the needs of the individual participants, allowing for all skill levels and abilities. Through our creative workshops we want participants to feel included, gain confidence, grow in their skills, and discover creative passion. We use art and creativity as a way to enhance self-expression, coping skills and empower stress management. We strive to deliver a high quality service for our participants.

About the opportunity

We are expanding, and looking for Creative Mentor with experience in the disability sector.

The successful candidate will be a part of an innovative, passionate team, whose primary focus is to support people in realising their creative potential - Through art, photography, videography, fashion design, jewellery making, painting, digital art, drawing, pottery, music and sculpture creation.

Our Creative Mentors will work with participants closely, instructing in the basic principles of the creative forms they specialise in. Creative mentors are somewhat like art assistants who supervise, guide, encourage creativity, and teach techniques through a variety of mediums.

About You

We are looking for kind and creative people who will Instruct participants in the use of arts media such as paint, clay, yarn, photography etc. You will enjoy providing guided self-expression through art and assisting our participants to grow their confidence and skills. You will be someone who acknowledges progress and reflects upon each participant’s artistic process. You are the right person for us, if you are dedicated, energetic, an organised planner, reliable, caring and love working with people who are funded by the NDIS.

You will also need the following:

  • Be an artist, Cert 3 in Visual Arts (preferred)
  • Cert 3 in individual support (preferred)
  • Experience in care for people with disabilities and mental health conditions
  • A current First Aid Certificate and Working with Children Check
  • Police check
  • Blue Card and Yellow Card
  • Current Australian driver's license and your own vehicle
  • Able to address triggers and redirect if necessary
  • Must be able to work in 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 capacities
  • Confident in the use of computers and iPads
  • Painting experience (preferred)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with our creative director
  • Must be flexible and adapt to the needs of participants
  • Able to communicate effectively within a team
  • Must have the ability to work independently
  • Ability to assist our creative director with preparation of workshops
  • Need a thorough knowledge of art processes and materials
  • Must have the ability to organise resources effectively
