Within the South Queensland area HWNS provides a range of accommodation services, assisting children who have varying support needs, from moderate to complex. As Support Worker, you will be working with customers who have intellectual disabilities, including dual diagnosis, utilising person centred active support. Shift hours will be allocated across a rotating 7 day roster, including sleep overs.

Compatibility matching

As part of our recruitment process we aim to match our customers with support workers based on on shared interests. We believe it makes a difference in the quality of support provided when a support worker can be matched to customers based on compatibility of interests and passions that allows for a strong working relationship to occur and to make the experience positive for both parties.

Application Criteria

What do you need to be successful in this role?

  • Experience or an understanding of supporting people with a disability including dual diagnosis
  • An understanding of the impact of trauma and attachment on adolescents and adults
  • An ability to assess and respond to unpredictable and challenging situations whilst prioritising individual needs within a group setting
  • An ability to assist people that may have complex care needs and/or have experienced trauma based illness
  • An ability to work across a range of rostered shift times, days and sleepovers that meets the needs of our customers. The ability to be available to work at short notice if required would be an advantage

As the successful applicant you will also hold;

  • A current Blue Card
  • Current full First Aid certificate
  • A current Driver’s Licence

Ideally the successful applicant will also hold, be studying or committed to undertaking a qualification in the Community Services Sector. This role would suit applicants with an interest/experience in complex disability work within a residential setting.
