About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager, People and Organisation, the Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager is responsible for embedding a strong safety culture across the organisation. The role monitors, investigates and reviews incidents and implements high level risk management strategies in line with safety legislation in NSW, QLD, ACT and VIC. It ensures effective consultation on safety matters and analyses trends and metrics to provide meaningful and informative reports. The HSW Manager champions Wellbeing initiatives and provides proactive solutions to a range of safety issues in diverse environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate strategic advice and direction in the development, implementation and monitoring of HSW policies, plans and programs.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation and standards and provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
- Identify trends and issues impacting HSW and provide operational guidance, technical expertise and support to address them, to relevant stakeholders.
- Develop strong working relationships with stakeholders and provide leadership across HWNS in promoting a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture.
- Effectively lead and manage WHS Coordinators (2).
About You
- A commitment to the Code of Conduct of House with No Steps
- Degree qualification in Workplace Health and Safety
- Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role; preferably in a not for profit environment
- Demonstrated capacity to lead, mentor and develop a professional team across a broad geography
- Expert knowledge of contemporary safety issues and best practice, and the statutory and regulatory framework in which safety operates, including workplace legislation
- Understanding of the regulatory environment and public policy of the disability sector and the philosophy of person-centred practice
- Outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills including demonstrated skills in consultation, facilitation, negotiation and influence, and capacity to interact at senior management level and represent HWNS in external contexts
- Well-developed written skills; ability to create professional standard reports and write comprehensive policies and procedures
- Effective presentation and training skills
- A current Australian driver’s license and the ability to travel intra or interstate from time to time.
