Our union is focused on growth and draws its strength from the diversity of our membership. We are currently looking for a permanent full time Senior Communications Officer to join our team.

Job Description

The Senior Communications Officer develops strategic communication plans for sign off by the leadership. The role is to maximise communication with members, industry leaders and political stakeholders. This is achieved by adding value to our organising campaigns and working closely with senior management and communication staff to oversee the development of content and its distribution. This includes online communication and hard copy publications, videography, events and general communications products.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

1. Strong experience in a similar role, or be ready to step up, focussed on strategic thinking and planning, and able to develop communications strategy and drive change.
2. Ability to manage and supervise a small communications team that must work to schedules and meet deadlines.
3. Experience with, and an understanding of integrated communications across relevant areas such as online campaigning, copywriting, film and print media.
4. High level written and verbal communication skills for target audiences.
5. Strong interpersonal communication skills with an ability to develop effective working relationships within HSU.
6. Liaise with an assist the union's external media consultants.
7. Capacity to manage and drive graphic design and small video production.
8. Ability to write effective union communications across all forms of internal and external formats
9. Able to maintain up to date knowledge of social media grammar.
10. Provide regular reports and analysis of the communication strategy to HSU leadership.

Relevant tertiary qualifications.

Salary

Salary will be offered based on skills and experience as per the HSU Employee Agreement.
