An opportunity has arisen for a Manager to join our Guide Dogs NSW/ACT (GDN) team, to support us to achieve our goal of supporting more people who are blind or vision impaired to live the life they choose through the delivery of responsive, sustainable services that effectively partner with clients.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is the largest provider in Australia of guide dogs and orientation and mobility services for people with vision loss. Our core services also include, low vision services, client advocacy and support services, and independent living services. We have a trusted and recognised brand and deliver thousands of client service programs annually. In fact, Guide Dogs has won the Reader’s Digest “Most Trusted Charity Brand” award from 2013 to 2018.

As the Manager, Canberra, you will provide leadership to your team, inclusive of effective change management, performance development and people management. You will be responsible for ensuring operational KPIs are achieved, effective client processes are consistently implemented, be involved in client referral generation initiatives, and support the delivery of quality services that are sustainable. The position reports to an Operations Manager across all Client Service teams. Communication within the Canberra team and across GDN departments will be essential; along with managing budgets and risk. Growth within the Canberra site is expected to include the provision of other services onsite such as puppy raising and the Canine Court Companion program.

To be considered for this opportunity you must demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a relevant professional area or operational management;
  • Working knowledge of operational systems and processes;
  • Experience leading people through significant change;
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and negotiation skills at all levels;
  • Analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy; coupled with being adept at report writing and presenting findings;
  • Possess a good understanding of high quality services for clients with vision impairment;
  • Hold a current NSW/ACT driver’s licence or be able to travel independently; and
  • Ideally you will have prior experience working in the not-for-profit or profit-for-purpose sector, possess strong project management skills, and be highly literate using computer / IT systems.
