Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is the largest provider of guide dogs and orientation and mobility services for people with vision loss in Australia. We are currently seeking an Assistive Technology Specialist, on a 12 month employment term, to join our Client Services team servicing clients residing in Sydney Metro South (Sydney & South Eastern Health Districts). This exciting position will deliver tailored and individualised assessments and training programs to people who are blind or vision impaired in the use of technology, using various adaptive technology software.
In the position you will plan and deliver Assistive Technology training to clients, which includes interpretation of files and functional evaluation of the client’s environment, research and select training options with the client, procure and design instructional materials and aids to reflect the client’s needs, develop goals with the client and deliver high quality training.
In addition to the aforementioned, this role will also be responsible for:
- Monitoring and evaluating the client’s skills and facilitating their development of independence and problem solving skills;
- Preparing and presenting education workshops to other agencies, internal staff, professional and community groups, families and individuals as required;
- Collaborating with the team members to identify and target networking opportunities to increase referrals for services in the region; and
- Working in a multidisciplinary team to undertake a comprehensive range of Assistive Technology programs, including mobile phone and computer access, screen readers and magnifiers, and braille technologies as required, for people with various levels of vision impairment.
To be considered for this opportunity you must demonstrate:
- Completion of relevant industry training (e.g. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment);
- Ideally you will have experience in a similar role with the familiarity of a comprehensive range of assistive technology solutions, experience planning and conducting assessments and delivering training programs;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with clients and others, including individuals from diverse backgrounds;
- Possess a mature and professional approach and presentation;
- Superior problem solving skills with strong attention to detail;
- Aptitude to work well under direction and in a team, as well as independently; and
- Excellent time management and organisation skills with the ability to adapt to varying workloads.
