Growing Farmers (GF) is an incorporated community organisation committed to regenerative farming in urban communities and enabling a new generation of aspiring urban farmers.

GF currently manages the Backyard Farmers Project, which matches urban farmers and Fawkner residents willing to lease out their backyard land for farming. GF has recently started the Network Farm Project looking to further connect the backyard farmers with the community and provide food relief services through community organisations to residents in Fawkner. We are also working to obtain tenure over a 1ha parcel of land in Fawkner, to locate our urban farm enterprise.

We are currently recruiting for several roles within the Board. Being a GF Board member is a voluntary position, and to be eligible you must be over 18 years of age and be a member of GF entitled to vote at a general meeting. Board members fill the roles and serve for one year period but are eligible for re-election at the next AGM. The roles we are recruiting are:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Vice Treasurer

The requirement is for Board members to attend our regular meetings every 2 months and provide guidance to the rest of the committee in undertaking their day-to-day activities. This role can be performed fully online, there is no requirement to be located in a particular part of Melbourne or Victoria.

Key Selection criteria

Key selection criteria for the roles include (more in the document attached):

  • Management, leadership or governance experience
  • An interest or prior background in food systems, community gardening or urban agriculture will be highly regarded
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, being a good communicator is highly required
  • Ability to support the organisation to increase its visibility and outreach
