The Role
We are currently seeking an experienced and commercially minded South-East & Central Queensland Relationship Manager to join the GreenCollar team. Reporting directly to the Central & Northern Queensland Business Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with the Central & Northern Queensland Stakeholder Manager and the State Business Manager to ensure the successful development of key client and stakeholder relationships, pre-feasibility ground truthing, site visits, execution of projects and growth of the environmental markets business in the Queensland State business unit. Your clients will include landholders, NRM groups, lawyers, accountants, corporate representatives and other stakeholders. Your core competency will be agricultural relationship management, negotiation and closing of viable Carbon and Reef projects, and on-ground technical fieldwork.
As part of the role you will be the main point of engagement for the collection of relevant data from the field and work closely with the Central & Northern Queensland State Business Manager to secure agreements and implement ERF projects.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Act as the central contact person/information source for incoming and existing client queries on carbon projects or other ecosystem services such as water quality in the South East & Central Queensland area.
- This role involves proactively ensuring existing, new and potential clients are up to date with timely relevant information and will also be responsible for maintaining and building relationships across your allocated regions.
- Essentially, you will act as the primary source of contact, relationship manager and business pipeline development manager for projects and key stakeholders across South-East & Central Queensland.
- Provide direct support to the Central & Northern Queensland Business Manager to ensure core commercial and land management strategies of business development, messaging and project origination increases and grows across the Queensland State business unit.
- Identify, seek out notify Queensland State Business Manager of new business opportunities and work with BU Manager to implement eligible Emissions Reduction Fund project (ERF Projects) opportunities and Reef Credit opportunities across QLD and in particular South East and Central Queensland.
- Responsibility for scheduling and conducting meetings with potential landholders and any relevant stakeholders required in as indicated from State BU Manager and other Executive Managers
- Negotiating and securing landholder properties for initial carbon assessment, project design and then project implementation through to project lifecycle management
- Work with GreenCollar Executive, corporate & technical services to provide all relevant legal and technical documentation to potential candidates, accurately, informatively and promptly. You will also be required to undertake AFSL training as directed by the Company, and to manage the validity of such associated accreditations achieved.
- Conduct presentations on relevant agricultural management options relevant to ERF methods, project opportunities and related workshops when and as required.
- Responsible for community engagement on Reef Credit projects and ERF project related matters and opportunities.
General responsibilities include:
- Report progress and issues to the Queensland Business Unit Manager on a regular basis
- Identification of procedural gaps and application of improvements in consultation with State BU Manager and head office staff
- Drafting and reviewing product offering documents from time to time
- Responsibility for the oversight of people and agents in regard to getting projects in place
- Ensuring that all internal and external clients/stakeholders are proactively managed, including but not limited to:
- Ensuring timely and accurate information is provided for the stakeholders, potential clients, modeling and mapping teams
- Returning all ERF project development reporting information to head office in a consistently punctual timeframe
Returning travel and expense documentation to head office in a consistently punctual timeframe
- Responsibility for advising on commitments made during discussions and identifying and managing gaps, following up regularly and recording all client interactions on the internal CRM system
- Maintain ERF Carbon and Reef Credit compliance according to legislative and internal regulations
- Mentor and develop appropriate people to ensure an ongoing smooth transition of key person risk
- Assist the growth of GC into the largest most respected environmental process company in QLD
Key Challenges
- Regular and frequent travel throughout Southern and Central Queensland.
- Working remotely and autonomously
- Practical problem solving and need to think on your feet while not exposing the business or yourself to risk
- A requirement to undertake diverse and multiple tasks (including field work, ground truthing etc.)
- Primary responsibility for managing and building relationships in Southern and Central QLD
- Managing a large number of diverse leads and projects in differing stages of development
- Uniqueness and complexity of each project and the components/limitations of methodologies in order to effectively qualify leads, project design and project potential that may not be immediately apparent
- Working with a diverse range of stakeholders on complex and diverse issues (lawyers, accountants, landholders, NRM groups etc.)
Skills and Experience
- Tertiary degree in agriculture, environmental science, law, commerce or economics.
- Demonstrated minimum five years of senior agricultural relationship management.
- Exceptional relationship building skills.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Exceptional negotiating and business/project development skills.
- Must be a highly motivated self-starter with a mature and dynamic approach.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously.
- Excellent computer skills, including GIS mapping.
- Knowledge of the Emissions Reduction Fund legislation and Environmental markets in general.
- Experience working in Natural Resource management.
- Experience in landscape restoration and or regeneration or other vegetation based projects or natural resource management activities.
- Knowledge of water quality issues and the Great Barrier Reef.
Selection Criteria
- 10+ years’ work experience in commercial environment or business
- 5+ years’ experience negotiating and/or business/project development experience
- Demonstrated experience in field work, data collection and survey work
- Demonstrated ability to secure transaction closure and maintain and build relationships
- Background in primary production, agriculture and natural resource management
- Demonstrated high level planning, analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge
- Demonstrated advanced communication skills (written and oral), including preparation of proposals, reports and presentations.
- Demonstrated high-level rapport with diverse stakeholders; including landholders, accountants, lawyers, corporate clients, NRM groups etc.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and a willingness to undertake a variety of tasks and display initiative to achieve measureable business outcomes
- Proven ability to work independently, in particular working in a business/project development and negotiation role
