The Gelganyem Group (Gelganyem) represents the Traditional Owners of the barramundi dreaming (a land area running from Kununurra down to and including the Argyle Diamond Mine) and manages their interests under the Argyle Participation Agreement.
Gelganyem comprises Gelganyem Limited and Gelganyem Investments Pty Ltd, both of which are registered NFP and ACNC-registered charitable organisations, as well as Gelganyem Trust. Gelganyem also operates two successful businesses: Gooring Jimbila Contracting (a civil construction company) and the Gelganyem Seed Operation (a seed collection, propagation, and planting business).
Using the provisions of the Argyle Participation Agreement, as well as its own commercial operations, Gelganyem’s mission is to improve the social, economic, and cultural wellbeing of Traditional Owners.
The representative nature of the Gelganyem Group is shaped by a traditional cultural structure, with Traditional Owners of each dawang/daam (traditional land or estate group) participating at all governance levels. Traditional Owners comprise predominantly Miriwoong and Gija people from seven identified estate groups.
Purpose
Under the direction of the CEO, the Trust Manager is responsible for designing, coordinating, and improving the internal and external programs of the Gelganyem Group for the benefit of Traditional Owners.
Current programs include an education scholarship, funeral program, health crisis initiative, and a law and culture program, all established through the Gelganyem Trust. With increased income likely in the future, the Trust Manager role will also be responsible for designing new social or economic programs benefitting TOs.
The Trust Manager will coordinate the existing Community Connections Team promoting improved social and economic outcomes and pathways to TOs through improved access to existing services and service providers.
The Trust Manager will work across a range of industries and stakeholders to deliver programs that align with the organisation’s strategic vision and reflect the needs of TOs.
Roles and responsibilities
- Expanding program offering and enhancing the quality of existing programs.
- Developing and implementing an ongoing strategy for the Community Connections Team.
- Understanding how different stakeholders and available supports interlink and overlap.
- Working with the Executive Team to manage staff and resources for programs.
- Considering the available marketing and communications opportunities to increase awareness of programs.
- Managing budgets and reporting on fund allocation and expenditure.
- Participating in any relevant tender and grant application process including design, submission, and review.
- Coordinating and running events and workshops.
- Gathering feedback and presenting insights for existing and potential programs.
- Reporting on program performance to the CEO.
- Identifying opportunities and presenting recommendations for continual improvement.
- Developing industry partnerships and stakeholders.
- Ensuring relevant standards, processes, policies, and regulations are upheld, particularly in regard to relevant trust laws.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of outcomes including statistics, participant data, and consultation.
- In collaboration with the CEO, perform human resources function for the Community Connections Team.
- Other duties as directed by the CEO.
Skills
- Maintain a high level of organisation to include diary management, coordinating and arranging meetings and appointments and managing and supporting day-to-day activities.
- Maintain and understand the need for confidentiality and integrity in managing social and economic challenges faced by TOs.
- Ability to take direction from a CEO, as directed by the Gelganyem Trust Board of Directors, and to work well as part of a small but efficient team.

- Manage and develop the staff within the Community Connections Team to ensure that individual skills are enhanced and potential realised.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully utilise the Microsoft Office range (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher) of programs to achieve the administration functions of this position.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate social media platforms as a channel for corporate promotion of programs and outcomes.
Key selection criteria: desirable
- Knowledge of the region in, and around, Kununurra would be very useful for the role.
- Applicants with experience working successfully with Aboriginal people will be highly regarded.
