Established on 1 December 2020, the Authority manages, protects, rehabilitates and fosters resilience of the natural, cultural and heritage values of coastal Crown land and marine waters along the Great Ocean Road.

About the Position

The Climate Action and Resilience Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Authority follows best practice, long term coastal hazard risk management and adaptation planning. They will identify, plan, and deliver strategies for coastal hazard risk management, and initiate and develop improved systems and processes to facilitate appropriate project outcomes within the marine and coastal environment.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Ensuring the Authority meets legislative obligations.
  • Overseeing the Authority’s compliance with statutory planning requirements to ensure the organisation aligns with best practice coast and parks management.
  • Ensuring the Authority follows best practice, long-term coastal hazard risk management and adaptation planning in line with Victoria’s Resilient Coast – Adapting for 2100+ framework.
  • Overseeing and delivering the design and development of scoping studies and Coastal Hazard Adaptation and Resilience Plans (CHARP) and managing the programming and delivery of actions identified.
  • Managing the delivery of relevant actions identified in the Coastal & Marine Management Plan (CMMP) including monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Programming and overseeing the team’s workloads and overseeing the appropriate implementation and management of the team’s budget.
  • Project planning, management, and implementation
  • Establishing and maintaining strong and productive relationships with relevant government and community stakeholders.
  • Representing the Authority on external forums and committees and at events
  • Providing advice and input into management, planning and implementing responses within coastal environs.
  • Playing a key role in supporting climate change mitigation strategies including project development, implementation and reporting.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of overall organisational strategies and contributing to policy development.
  • Working closely with teams within the Directorate of Environment and Coastal Operations to support climate change mitigation outcomes.
  • Presenting to the Authority Board as required.
  • Supporting the Authority’s lead agency function.

About you!

  • Tertiary qualifications in coastal or environmental management, planning, engineering and/or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience in coastal planning and with the Victorian Planning System
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, managing, and delivering a program of projects
  • Knowledge of best practice climate change mitigation and adaptation management, with specific emphasis on managing coastal hazards.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with environmental protection and cultural heritage-related legislation.
  • Demonstrated constructive, collaborative and values-based leadership skills.
  • Logical, flexible approach to overcoming challenges and responding to changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage and participate in community engagement processes.
