These are identified position that require a person to be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. The role of the Koala and Fire Research Program Assistant is to support Indigenous communities to conduct Indigenous led cultural fire management on country that protects and enhance Koala populations and habitat, provide support to the Firesticks community, and grow a network of professional cultural fire practitioners, mentors and trainers.
The roles are fixed term for twelve months part-time 3 days/22.5 hours a week and flexible work arrangements are offered.
The best fit for this role is somebody who has:
- Current driver’s licence
- Experience in or willingness to acquire skills and knowledge at working in Indigenous cultural frameworks
- On-ground, practical experience in or demonstrated willingness to acquire skills and knowledge in Indigenous cultural fire management &/or related cultural & natural resource management
- Experience in or willingness to acquire skills and knowledge in engaging and working with Aboriginal peoples/communities on sensitive environmental and cultural issues
- Experience in or willingness to acquire skills and knowledge in supporting development and delivery of culturally appropriate projects with Indigenous people
- Demonstrated experience or willingness to acquire skills and knowledge in project delivery, including ability to support delivery of projects within allocated budgets
- Demonstrated ability to support the management of multiple tasks and deliver outputs within specified timeframes
- Ability to be supervised remotely and work autonomously
- Ability to complete tasks
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Firesticks, with a track record of working with communities and individuals to create positive impact
