The YALATA ANANGU ABORIGINAL CORPORATION on behalf of the Far West Aboriginal Communities Leaders Group is seeking an experienced professional for an exciting opportunity to support the work of this dynamic Group within the beautiful Far West Region of South Australia.
The ideal person will be proactive and responsive to complex issues, can provide high level advice, manage a range of corporate initiatives, and maintain key relationships both within and outside the Group.

The Far West Aboriginal Communities Leadership Group
The Far West Aboriginal Communities Leaders Group is a high-performing action group consisting of Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers of the five local Aboriginal corporations and Local Government Representation of the far west region of South Australia. The purpose of the FWACLG is to effectively and strategically advocate across the far west region to improve the social and economic status of Aboriginal families and communities through effective leadership and strong alliances and a communal approach.
The Position
The Executive Officer is accountable for performing an important administrative and strategic role within the Group and undertaking a broad range of activities, including:
- Providing a high-level executive, secretariat, and project support service to the FWACLG
- Contributing to the effective and efficient operation of the group, including providing administrative support, strategic advice, managing communications and implementing strategies to support the achievement of the Group's objectives
- Applying a strategic lens to the work of the group and assisting with the development of the Regional Plan
Requirements of the Position
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience
- Proficiency in IT and communication mediums
- Experience and ability to work with Aboriginal organisations and people, while respecting cultural values and ways of doing business
- Understanding of issues relevant to regional, remote or very remote communities
- Proven ability to work independently under very broad direction and identify performance outcomes, plan activities and set priorities to achieve objectives and meet deadlines
- Ability to be flexible and show resilience
- Sound decision making and judgement to produce high level policy advice
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, decisively and effectively
- Skills in complex problem solving and ability to evaluate information effectively and ascertain practical solutions that are aligned with the core values of the FWACLG
- Proficiency in the use of information technology based systems, including word processing packages, electronic mail, databases and spread sheets
- Ability to monitor the direction and progress of activities to ensure relevancy to strategic outcomes
- Skills in engagement and collaboration with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation
The successful applicant will require a current driver’s licence, National police clearance, and comply with any mandatory requirements including training. The position will require intrastate and some interstate travel, including overnight absences and out of hours work.
