Kitchen Supervisor / Chef

FareShare rescues food that would otherwise go to waste and cooks it into nutritious meals for people in crisis. We run Australia's largest charity kitchens and our chefs oversee an army of volunteers to cook over 20,000 meals every week. These meals are provided free of charge to over 400 charities including homeless shelters, soup vans, women’s refuges, disadvantaged schools, and community food banks.

Due to unprecedented need in the community, we are scaling up our production and seek an experienced chef/cook to work in our large, high-volume kitchen.

We are looking for a confident professional with strong communication skills who can work with a dynamic and dedicated team.

YOUR DAY WILL TYPICALLY INCLUDE:

  • Supervising a kitchen of wonderful volunteers to prepare mountains of vegetables and package thousands of meals
  • Producing nutritious meals from a mystery box of exciting ingredients
  • Following our HACCP Food Safety Program/record keeping

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrated, hands on experience in a high-volume commercial kitchen
  • Trade qualifications in cookery including a current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
  • Keenness to reduce food insecurity and food waste at a local level
  • Enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds and skill sets (especially corporates and volunteers)
  • Has the ability to work autonomously or as part of a team and is not afraid to get their hands dirty
  • Must be physically fit to meet the demands of a high-volume kitchen
  • Is able to obtain a Working with Children Check (employee status)

HIGHLY REGARDED:

  • Demonstrated experience in high volume Bratt/kettle cooking
  • Understanding of cook chill processes
  • Current knowledge of HACCP and food safety processes.

The position is part time Monday and Tuesday 1.30-9.30pm and every second Saturdays 7am-12-pm and may require some flexibility. Up to 25 hours a week. There are no split shifts.
