How You’ll Make a Difference

The Access to Early Learning Practitioner fosters important connections and collaboration between the family, the early childhood education and care (ECEC) service and educators and other services to reduce barriers to a child's sustained engagement in early childhood educations. The program funds free access to a 15 hour per week, high quality three year old kindergarten program and provides focused education support to vulnerable children from families with complex needs who would otherwise not attend kindergarten.

Some of the day to day duties may include:

  • Proactively engage with secondary and tertiary services working with vulnerable families, to identify children and families to be referred to AEL.
  • Actively reach out to children and families to understand the practical and other barriers that may prevent a child from participating and attending kindergarten.
  • Support the family to engage or re-engage with other relevant services and find additional supports where necessary for the child and family.
  • Lead in home learning activities, working on family led goals the build parents understanding, confidence and skills regarding child development and learning.

This position is full time and ongoing based in our Shepparton office.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

To be considered for this role, you must hold at a minimum a Bachelor Degree in Social Work or relevant discipline.

We also require candidates to hold a Working with Children Check, valid Victorian driver’s license, satisfactory National Police Check and a minimum 2 doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine.

Critical to your success in this role will also be:

  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with vulnerable children and families including building rapport whilst maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Understanding of early childhood development and the impact of trauma, parental mental health, parental substance use and family violence on children and their development.
  • Understanding of reflective practice.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate and negotiate.
