The position:
We are looking for a highly motivated Community Project Officer– Cultural Development to join our team. The Social and Cultural Development team helps marginalised people build bridges into the community by addressing barriers to participation and strengthening local organisations. We advocate for additional resources, programs and policies to achieve social justice, minimise harm, enhance social inclusion, community participation and cohesion, as well as safe and healthy people and places.
The Community Project Officer (CPO) Cultural Development is a catalyst within Council and the community to engage and build creative skills and culture in the local community. The position works closely with Council’s Fairfield City Museum and Gallery to promote the creative cultures of Fairfield residents; and manages Council’s annual Social Change Through Creativity grants program to encourage creative activities with a community development focus.
Essential criteria:
- Comprehensive experience in community work such as community and cultural development, social planning.
- Considerable experience in working with diverse communities and individuals involved in cultural practices e.g. performance, music, dance, theatre, visual arts, multi-media, leading to an understanding of the diverse needs of cultural creative practitioners.
- High Level of communications skills, computer literacy and public speaking, experience in report writing, advocacy and submission writing.
- Significant experience and skills in developing and managing multiple projects (project management skills), budgets, achieving timeframes and milestones, managing short term contracts and undertaking project evaluations.
- Experience in evaluating, analysing and monitoring government policies, programs and projects.
- Excellent organisational skills including administration, problem solving, decision making, and achieving time frames.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation, conflict resolution and the ability to convene public meetings (including meeting procedure and management committee functions). The position requires the incumbent to communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.
- Excellent team membership and collaborative skills, as well as an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Salary & employment conditions
- Temporary part time position, 42 hours per fortnight, 18 month contract
- This position is a Grade 6, salary range is $77,122 p.a. with progression to $79,050 p.a. on demonstrated competencies (pro rata)
