Family Planning Victoria is a leading, not for profit, state-wide provider of sexual and reproductive health care, education and advocacy. Governed by a voluntary board of directors, we have been providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services in Victoria for over 40 years.

We provide a range of services which are accessible, culturally relevant and responsive to the needs of the diverse Victorian community. These services include clinical care as well as education and training to help build the capacity of educators and health care professionals working in the sexual and reproductive health sector.

We are seeking a highly motivated Community Outreach Educator to join our Community Services team located in Box Hill.

Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Design, implement and evaluate programs that enable young people from LGBTIQ and other priority populations outside the mainstream schooling system to make informed choices in the area of sexual and reproductive health.
  • Provide effective health promotion and information in group settings to young people, as well as allied health workers, agencies and organisations that work with young people regarding
    • BBV/STI/unplanned pregnancy prevention and harm minimisation strategies
    • Anti-discrimination and LGBTIQ health and wellbeing strategies.
  • Provide professional development and capacity building to health and allied health workers, agencies and organisations that work with young people from the relevant priority populations.
  • Provide LGBTIQ youth group support and outreach.

To be considered for this role, you must be able to demonstrate the following key selection criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Development and/or equivalent experience in related field
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment or equivalent
  • Appropriate registration with relevant Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • High level understanding of issues related to young people from priority populations, particularly those who identify as LGBTIQ
  • Sound knowledge of and experience in providing sexual and reproductive health information, particularly to groups
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in facilitating support groups and professional learning sessions
  • Demonstrated understanding and skills in youth participation theory/approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to respond in a sensitive manner to FPV’s client group and ability to adhere to all issues of confidentiality
  • A current driver’s licence
  • Valid Working with Children’s check

The incumbent will also be required to undertake and complete a successful national police check.
