About Us

To change the world charities and not-for-profits need amazing staff and volunteers – and that’s why EthicalJobs.com.au exists. We bridge the gap between the thousands of not-for-profit organisations that tirelessly strive to make our world a better place and all the passionate, values-driven job-seekers who want to “work for a better world”.

As a social enterprise and one of Australia’s top job-search sites for the not-for-profit sector and beyond, we work with more than 4,000 organisations around the country and have a passionate community of 200,000+ unique users visiting the site each month (plus a 125,000-strong email list). And we’re growing!

Our spacious office in Collingwood has loads of natural light, high ceilings, standing desks, a large outdoor deck for lunch in the sun and drinks after work, and great food and coffee just around the corner.

You’ll be joining a dedicated, passionate and successful team (currently 15 people) who are inspired to work for a better world through connecting people and organisations who share a vision of a more equitable, just and sustainable world.

About the Role

You’ll be an integral part of a growing engineering team (currently two engineers and growing to five over the next 12 months) building a brand new responsive EthicalJobs.com.au site as well as other exciting development projects and product launches.

You’ll have the opportunity to shape the directions we take. Your work will help hundreds of thousands of people to find “work for a better world”, and thousands of organisations to find the extraordinary people they need to change the world.

Our engineering team runs as an autonomous agile team, and as a team member, you’ll enjoy contributing to solving problems, continuous improvement of processes and having a say in the tech stack we work on.

About You

As a mid-level full stack engineer, you’ll be comfortable moving throughout the stack, from our PHP-based APIs through to the React apps consuming these APIs.

You’ll have experience with:

    • React
    • PHP
    • Git
    • Yarn / NPM

You’ll be a proponent of best practices and software design patterns, as well as building and maintaining a reliable platform using an excellent test suite.

You’re also someone with an interest in environmental or social justice issues, and in “working for a better world”.

See the attached Position Description for a full list of our stack and other details.

What do you get beyond a great remuneration package?

  • A beautiful office with lots of natural light and close to public transport
  • A beautiful outdoor deck to eat lunch on
  • In-house massage-therapist – visits every 2 weeks to give everyone a 15 minute massage
  • Standing desks
  • Unlimited fruit, nuts and chocolate
  • Pet-friendly workplace – a number of staff regularly bring their dogs in to make the office more fun
  • Paid professional development days
  • Option to work a 9-day fortnight
  • The opportunity to have a real impact on the work of over 4,000 charities and social enterprises across Australia!
